If you are looking for an organization to give to this year, I have a suggestion. Samaritan’s Purse is a great organization that provides all sorts of things for in people in third world countries including the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was started by Billy Graham’s son, Franklin and is also the organization behind Operation Christmas Child. I know that many, many churches participate in that program every year. But you can do so much more than give a child some gifts at Christmas time. I received their Christmas gift catalog in the mail this past week and I am astounded at how cheaply you can give so much to those who have so little. You can provide medical care, sports equipment, livestock and grain, food, education, shelter and so much more. Even if you only have a few dollars to spend, you can find something to give. Sports equipment is only $8 and blankets are $6. Of course, if your budget allows you to spend more there are ways to spend more. I encourage you to either donate online or order a gift catalog. Despite our failing economy, we still have far more than people in third world countries ever imagine having. If we cannot find a few dollars to make their lives better then we need to reexamine ourselves.
